Butcher in ATP’s 2014-15 Season

Alberta Theatre Projects today revealed their lineup for the 2014-15 season, and it will include Nic’s newest play, Butcher. The show will be directed by Weyni Mengesha.

Who is the Butcher? At a police station a mysterious old man is found wearing a foreign military uniform and a Santa hat, with a meat hook dangling around his neck. As a lawyer, a police officer, and a translator struggle to unravel the truth, they uncover a past that won’t stay buried, and a decades-old quest for justice that must be served. Haunted by events a world away, no one is who they seem to be.

Described as a political thriller, Butcher will run in Calgary from October 14 to November 1, 2014 at the Martha Cohen Theatre.

Chosen by a peer assessment committee appointed by the Canada Council, the 2013 jury had this to say about their selection:

Nicolas Billon’s Fault Lines takes a unique and dramatic look at climate change. Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands inspire the playwright’s provocative, theatrical triptych. Urbane and sophisticated strategies of monologue are honed to a laser probe into the interiors of contemporary consciousness.
