Nic nominated for 2018 WGC Screenwriting Award

Nicolas was nominated today for a Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Award for “Promises” (X Company episode 304) in the TV Drama category.

The awards take place on April 30, 2018 at Toronto’s Koerner Hall.

The Yellow Wallpaper part of 2015 Bicycle Opera Project

Nic’s libretto of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s famous short story will be a part of the Bicycle Opera Project’s 2015 touring season.

The opera fragment will play in various locations over the summer:

– At the 21C Music Festival in Toronto on May 21st;
– In residency at the Bells of Baddeck in Cape Breton, NS from July 3rd to August 2nd;
– On the East Coast tour of the program, August 3rd to 11th;
– On the Ontario tour of the program, August 14th to September 6th.

Nic wins Canadian Screen Award for Elephant Song

At a ceremony in Toronto, Nic was announced as the winner of the 2015 Canadian Screen Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Elephant Song.

In his bilingual thank you speech, Nic highlighted several key members of the production, including DoP Pierre Gill, editor Dominique Fortin, actors Xavier Dolan and Bruce Greenwood, along with a special mention of director Charles Binamé and producer Richard Goudreau.

Two rave reviews for Butcher

Nic’s new play, Butcher, has garnered two rave reviews following its opening at Calgary’s Alberta Theatre Projects.

Louis Hobson at the Calgary Sun gave Butcher 5/5 stars, calling it “a scary, unsettling thrill ride that might just haunt your intellect as much as it surely will your nightmares.” You can read the full review here.

Meanwhile, J. Kelly Nestruck at the Globe & Mail says “Billon has crafted a compelling dramatic metaphor here – those of us blessed to have be raised in peace can only grasp at the edges of understanding when it comes to war crimes.” The 4/4 star review is available here.

Elephant Song World Premiere at TIFF 2014

Nic’s first feature film, Elephant Song, was announced today as part of the 2014 line-up of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This will be its world premiere and part of TIFF’s Special Presentations programme.

Directed by Charles Binamé, the film stars Bruce Greenwood, Xavier Dolan, Catherine Keener, Carrie-Anne Moss, Guy Nadon, and Colm Feore.

Tickets will be available starting August 31st at the TIFF Festival Box Office.

Greenland at the 2014 Vancouver Fringe

Following the success of Iceland in April, Kathy Duborg will direct Nic’s Greenland at the 2014 Vancouver Fringe. The play will be produced by the TigerMilk Collective.

The production will take place on the SS Master, an 85 foot wooden boat docked at Granville Island.

La Chanson de l’Éléphant nominated for 2 Molières

Nic’s first professional production in Europe, La Chanson de l’Éléphant, has garnered two acting nominations at the 2014 Molières (France’s equivalent to the Tonys).

Christine Bonnard is nominated for the Molière de la Comédienne dans un second rôle (Best Supporting Actress) and Jean-Baptiste Maunier is in the running for the Molière de la Révélation masculine (Best New Actor).

The Molières take place on June 2, 2014 in Paris.

Iceland (Mag North Festival — Halifax)

The Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Canada’s only national theatre festival, announced their 2014 lineup today and it will include Nic’s play, Iceland, with the original SummerWorks cast under the direction of Ravi Jain. The Festival takes place in Halifax, Nova Scotia this year.
